facebook ahoy!

We joined facebook today since we are now 100% caught up in this artsy digital lifestyle. It's phenomenal being able to search for "Undem" on this particular social networking site and find yourself sifting through over 50 people with the same last name as you. I did come across a few Undems I actually know, and promptly "added" them as my "friends." Oh, the Internet - connecting us all like dots. Anyways, that's about it for today. Won't you be our "friend"? Also, those three YouTube videos you see in the right hand column of this here blog were shot by Miranda and I from the vantage point of our Toyota Echo (i.e. Echo Cam!). They are of us driving into and around Edmonton documenting the scenery. Turn up the volume on your PC or Mac to get the full effect. More soon!

Oh Susanna!

Kyle, myself, and a group of about 8 of our friends went to the Varscona last night to see its monthly production of everybody's favourite European Variety Show: Oh Susanna, starring international glamour-gal Susanna Patchouli (Mark Meer) and her co-host Eros, God of Love (Jeff Haslam). It was hilarious!

The best part though? Nathan Fillion from Firefly, Serenity, One Life to Live, Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place, and the new movie, "The Waitress" co-starring Kerrie Russel was one of Susanna's celebrity guests!

He was a great sport throughout the crazy show. The funny thing is that I saw him at the bar we were at prior to the play and thought to myself that he looked incredibly familiar, but didn't say anything to anyone. Next thing I know he's on the stage being introduced as Nathan Fillion! There's our celebrity spotting for the month. I had no idea he was actually born in Edmonton!

Also appearing in the performance was Edmonton's own Canadian Idol Finalist, Sheldon Elter. He amazed us all with his ukelele playing talent.

More celebrities that are walking Edmonton's streets these days include:

Carmen Electra, Patrick Swayze, Leslie Neilson, Chris Kattan, Preston Lacey, Amy & Zoe Schlagel, Matthew Knight, and Cameron Bright who are all starring in, "Christmas in Wonderland", directed by James Orr. It is about a family who has just moved to Edmonton from LA. Their mother is still trapped in an LA airport which leaves all the Christmas shopping to dad and the kids who have no Christmas spirit. The kids, at some point, end up finding a satchel of money in West Ed and things start looking up until the crooks that counterfitted it start hunting them down. CiW is being filmed in West Edmonton Mall so the mall still has all of its Christmas decorations up, even though it's May -- which is confusing some visitors.

The public is welcome to come to the mall to watch it being filmed so if our schedules match up with the filming we may head over to check it out. I mean, not every day does your favourite (and one of the best ever) SNL characters come to little old EDMONTON!!

Sunny Saturdays

We are really amazed at what a little sunshine can do. When we moved into this apartment it was freezing cold, got dark at 3:30 every day, and everything was dead outside. Though it was beautiful in a "winter wonderland" kind of way, we were missing safe roads, green leaves, and the never ending summer sun.

This was our view in Decemeber.... Brrrrrr:

And this is what we get to look at now:

There's nothing like green leaves and sunshine to renew and reinspire. And, there's really nothing like a Saturday afternoon spent out on the patio:

Expectations murdered by heated killers

Thanks to a few drinks and a great light show this concert was spectacular. Also going into the experience with absolutely no expectations helped, too. We had never been to a show at Rexall Place before so we weren't quite sure what to expect exactly. Walking into it.... it was strange, to say the least. Folks were walking around with burgers, hot dogs, pop corn, and Starbucks coffee. It felt we were at a circus more so than an actual concert. But, once The Killers took over the stage... everything changed.

I called it on what song they would start with, too!

Thanks to The Killers for a double encore, playing Smile Like You Mean It (my favourite song), and not being jackasses, but rather seeming like a super nice band that just likes to throw lots of drumsticks.

Brandon Flowers is also really short. Far shorter than I had anticipated. So one has to take that into consideration when hearing him compare himself to Jesus or John Lennon or whoever the heck he thinks he is right now. He's just self-conscience, really. ;)

I don't think Rexall has danced that much, clapped that much, or cheered that much in years.

Things that made this night special:

- Kyle dancing, singing, and heckling Flowers

- The girl in front of us who danced the night away even though her boyfriend didn't want her to

- The couple in front of us who didn't turn around and yell at me after I spilled a little bit of beer on their heads... (I still feel horrible:( :( )

- Hot Hot Heat playing all our favourite songs

- Molson Canadian

- The entire arena singing, "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" over and over again with complete silence from the band... bringing the house down and I'm sure more than a few people with it.

There might just be something to this arena rock thing, but we're not rushing out to get Nickelback tickets just yet.

The Killers are definitely one of the best live bands out there right now. A great show... one going in the history books for us.
